Development Questions

Question #1

Who would like to share a highlight, praise report, or testimony from this week?

Question #2

What did you learn from this week’s sermon?

Question #3

What was your most important accomplishment this week?

This Week's Passage:

Luke 9:18–27
18 Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?”
19 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”
20 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”
21 Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.
22 And he said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”
23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
24 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
25 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?
26 Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
27 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”

Connection Question:

What is one daily habit or routine that has shaped who you are today, and why has it been so influential?

Truth #1:

Following Jesus Begins with a Personal Surrender to His Lordship

Discussion Points:

  1. Jesus first asks, “Who do you say I am?” because discipleship starts with a personal confession of faith.
    (Luke 9:18–20)
  2. A growing disciple continually renews their mind and aligns their life with God’s will.
    (Romans 12:1–2)
  3. Daily surrender means seeking God’s kingdom above our own desires and ambitions.
    (Matthew 6:33)

Growth Question:

What areas of your life are hardest to fully surrender to Christ’s leadership?

Truth #2:

Following Jesus Daily Requires Denying Ourselves and Carrying Our Cross

Discussion Points:

  1. Jesus calls every disciple to deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow Him.
    (Luke 9:23)
  2. The Christian life involves dying to sin and living for righteousness.
    (Romans 6:11–14)
  3. God empowers believers through the Holy Spirit to remain faithful in daily discipleship.
    Galatians 5:16–17

Growth Question:

Are there specific comforts, habits, or priorities that compete with wholehearted devotion to Christ?

Truth #3:

Following Jesus Daily Leads to Eternal Reward and Kingdom Purpose

Discussion Points:

  1. Jesus teaches that gaining the whole world is worthless if we lose our souls.
    (Luke 9:24–25)
  2.  Faithful disciples are unashamed of Christ and His teachings.
    (Luke 9:26)
  3.  Our daily faithfulness today prepares us for eternal joy and reward in Christ.
    (2 Timothy 4:7–8)

Growth Question:

In what settings are you challenged to boldly identify with Christ?

GO THEREFORE QUESTION:
